The Most Honourable Louise Bennett-Coverly.OM
For the efforts she made in highlighting,
preserving and compelling Jamaicans
to appreciate the vernacular –
an integral and obvious facet of our
culture. I admire her resilience when
faced with blatant opposition, and her
determination to hold firm to her persuasions,
which resulted in her being rewarded
with many merits, testament for her
achievements.
I interact. I intend to complete Doctoral
studies in either Social Work or Counselling
and navigate my path on becoming an
ardent advocate for protecting the rights
of women and children. I am also desirous
of commencing a motivational novel,
my singing career, as well as project
geared at enhancing greater appreciation
of Jamaican Cultural Consciousness among
students at the Seaforth High School.

Anything that concerns law and judicial
matters.
Reading, listening to music and socializing.
A radical thinker who avidly stands

adopted from my mother and dutifully
honed as headgirl of Manning’s
School.

Students Council.
A volunteer tutor of Spanish for teachers
who are unable to speak the language.

Counselling Department to offer my services
as a Certified Peer Counsellor.
Student Representative to the Manning’s
School Past Students Association Western
Chapter.

Gloria.
Her early life was riddled with hardships,
physical and emotional abuse. However
this did not deter her from preserving
in life. Through hard work and sacrifice
she was able to acquire her dreams.
She started out by selling oranges but
now she owns a hotel, the Glorianna
Hotel.
Before entering the competition, plans
for the next five years would
have entailed my acceptance of one of
my academic scholarship, to study abroad,
with plans of majoring in Criminal Justice
or Political Science. Upon completion
of my first degree I would have moved
on to Harvard or Columbia Law Schools.
Today however, I have seen where entering
this competition has changed my outlook
on the Jamaican life. I have seen a
need for more contribution to be made
towards developing our country instead
of perpetuating the effects of the age
old “brain drain”. I have
therefore decided to stay in Jamaica
and the next five years will see my
completing my first degree at the University
of the West Indies, Mona and then moving
on to the Norman Manley Law School.
