Biographies
  ANDRE WRIGHT
Entry: Man O God

A musician and singer, Andre has performed at a number of major gospel shows including ‘Fun in the Son’ and Genesis.

He has been singing at age six (6) in his church and is one of the lead singers at the Full Truth Church of Cod Deliverance Center. At age 13 he began learning to play acoustic & bass guitar and keyboard but after 3 weeks of training didn’t continue because he felt he had mastered them. A pre-trained teacher, he was music teacher and choir director at the Kingston Technical High School.

In 2000, he teamed up with Noreta Lewis on the song "I'll Make It Through The Valley" which won the Jamaica Gospel Competition in that year. Andre' has also graced the stage with gospel singers and musicians such as; Kirk Franklin, Donnie Mcklurkin, Yolanda Adams and others. Andre says has entered this year to showcase his ministry and embark on the rehabilitation of today’s youth.

  BRINETTA LEWIS
Entry: Weh You A Worry Fah

Brinetta, a past student of the Papine High School, started sing at age 15 with the youth choir at her church. A former member of Total Praise group, she had the opportunity to minister both locally and internationally with artistes such as Sandra Brooks, Love Singers and Kurt Carr. Currently ministering with the Perpetual Praise Worship, she says she entered the competition because she wanted to challenge herself and honour her father’s memory.

Currently a teacher, she says she was lead to gospel music after being saved at age 14. Her personal philosophy is to do her best and live a balanced life while representing God at all times. The inspiration for “Weh You A Worry Fah” came from an experience where she was worried about things that were affecting her, when the chorus just came to her, seemingly from above.

  FABIAN WRIGHT
Entry: I have Your Mercy

A musician by profession, Fabian is former lead singer of the 5:15 band and has performed at the Air Jamaica Jazz and Blues Festival and at the popularly Jazz in the Gardens. He also performs at local concerts and traveled to Barbados in 2007 where he did entertainment for Italian restaurants and other elegant dinning venues.

He says he entered the competition this year because he wants to minister to Jamaica at large and says he feels that with Christ he can weather any storm. His entry “I Have Your Mercy” was inspired by his own testimony and he says that Gospel music is his life.

  GAMEL GRANT
Entry: Take Me To Jesus

Musician, Singer and Teacher, Gamel Grant, graced the stage of the Jamaica Gospel Song Finals in 2008, walking away with third place for his entry “Remember Heaven”. In the same year, he was also the choir director for the 2008 TVJ ‘All Together Sing’ Champions, the Albert Town High School. Hailing from the parish of Westmoreland, Gamel says he hopes to use this year’s competition to launch his career in ministry to a large scale.

He says that it was on a cool night with his guitar, and in deep meditation with God that the inspiration for his entry “Take Me to Jesus” came. A Seventh Day Adventist by faith, he says his personal philosophy is “The opportunity of a lifetime is only grasped within the lifetime of the opportunity”.

  GILHEISA SMITH & TOBI GAY MAXWELL (GCT)
Entry: You Are

Going by the acronym ‘GCT’, short for “God’s Cherished Two”, Gilhesia Smith and Tobi Gay Maxwell are students of the Victor Dixon High School in Manchester. They are both member of their youth choirs and have individually won medals in JCDC Music competition over the years. They were introduced to the competition by their musical director and say they felt it was a good medium to minister and contribute to the society.

They say they were both introduced to Christ by their parents and were brought up in church. Their entry “You Are” was inspired by the awesomeness of God and the fact that regardless of the fact that though we fail him many times, he is always there.

  KIMIELA ISAACS
Entry: Reassurance

Kimiela has been entering the JCDC’s Festival of the Arts competitions for the last ten years most performing classical and covers of popular music. She says she was influenced to pursue music by friends and family and so far has shared stage with artistes such as Judith Gayle, DJ Nicholas and other popular gospel artistes. In 2008? , she won the award for Most Outstanding Female vocalist in the JCDC Music competition

Kimiela says that success does not come easily and feel that one must work hard to achieve your goals. Being born and raised in church, she says she realized that God has a plan for her and it was during a course of depression that the Lord gave her entry song to her.

  KIMOLA BROWN
Entry: Sen Down

Kimola says that singing came as a natural talent from childhood. As a youngster, she participated in church and community events, singing whenever she got a chance, this a practice she continued into her high school days.

At the Brown’s Town Community College, she joined the choir; however she never considered pursuing music professionally. While still in college, she became part of the Christ Life Ministries and the Vision Life Band. This move inspired her to write her own music. In 2006, Brown entered the Jamaica Gospel Song competition however she never made it past the elimination stage.

Her 2009 entry “Sen Down’ , she wrote along with Rushel Smith , out of what she describes as a ‘hunger’ for a new beginning. She says her group, the Christ Life Ministries and Vision Life Band has been her biggest inspiration to pursue music.

  LEO LEWIS
Entry: Buss Out

A teacher by profession, Leo was lead to perform gospel music as he saw it as an avenue to glorify God. He entered the Jamaica Gospel Song Competition in 2004 and so far has been performing at a number of churches and small concerts. He says that his entry this year was inspired by a desire to redefine the way persons look at spiritual warfare.

  NICKETTE MORGAN
Entry: Wherever I Go

Nickette has been singing gospel music for over 20 years, where she ministered with he siblings “The Morgan’s” at local assemblies and in her church community. She attends the Bible Truth Church of God, where she currently the director of the Kingston Sunday School Choir Ministry.

While attending the University of the West Indies, she was an active member of the University Chorale and the University Singers. She also participated in the Brooklyn Tabernacle Choir Competition in 2000.

Professionally, Nickette is an accountant and internal auditor and says she was encouraged by her sister to enter the competition. She says she feels like it’s her time to share her gift and minister to as many souls as possible.

  OMAR DOUGLAS
Entry: Jehovah Nah Sleep

Omar Douglas or “Little D” says that while growing up he thought that adults got anything they wanted, however he says if this was true, he would be Kenny Rogers. He says he loves all kinds of music, especially Country & Western and has been singing all his life.

In 2005, he walked into a recording studio for the first time and recorded a song that he entered in what was then the Jamaica Popular Song Competition and was placed second. Omar says he writes all kinds of songs, but was encouraged to enter the competition when he created his entry “Jehovah Nah Sleep”. He says his song is intended to remind people to be cautious in their action because the Father is always watching.

Hailing from Yallahs, St. Thomas, and Omar is a security officer and attends the New Testament Church of God.
