  ROY RAYON

Song: Rise & Shine

Singer and Song Writer, Roy Rayon is no stranger to the Jamaican public, having already produced two albums to date, Roy was winner of the Festival Song Competition in 1985, 1987 and 1992. He was also the road manager and lead singer with Unique Vision Band from 1980 to1986. Rayon has toured with FAB 5 and performed as opening act for Rita Marley in the USA and the Caribbean. Nowadays, he spends his time, serving on several cultural committees and is also one of the trainers for the Miss Kingston and St. Andrew Festival Queen Contestants. He is also one of the preliminary judges for Digicel ‘Rising Stars’ television series.

  LYNFORD McINTOSH

Song: Country Life

A Computer Graphic Designer and events planner by profession, Lynford McIntosh’s musical experience started at age 17 as a Hotel Resident Band singer. Since then he has commanded countless recognition that has earned him jobs in the most of the major hotels in Jamaica.

In 2003, Lynford McIntosh received the Jamaica Federation of Musicians Award for best male vocalist for the Year and is known to be a very energetic performer. He has performed at major concerts including ‘Nyammins and Jammins’ Food Festival, Genesis and Reggae Sum-fest. In 2007 Lynford McIntosh recorded the project ‘So Vex’, the new single from his upcoming album ‘Controversies’. At present, Lynford McIntosh can be seen performing at top North Coast Resorts.

  MICHAEL RUTHERFORD

Song: Ole Time Festival

Michael Rutherford’s talents first became evident while performing as a youngster in the August Town, Kingston. He attended the Papine Secondary School, where his talents were further developed through the school’s music program. In 1980, after entering a talent competition, he became a member of the Bohemia Nightclub’s resident band, the “Mighty Titans”. He was also the lead singer for Jamaica’s number one dance and show band the “Sonny Bradshaw 7”. He first entered the Festival Song Competition in 1988 and won the prize for the “Best Arranged” song. In 1990, he became the lead vocalist for the Ryddim Kings Band and toured the world with reggae icon Gregory Isaacs.

  DJ SPENG

Song: Sweet Jamaica

Horace Grey otherwise known as “DJ Speng” was born in the community of Clark's Town, Trelawny. He considers himself to be an outspoken, confident, jovial and fun loving individual, who believes in dedication and effective work towards achieving his goals. He first realized his talent while attending high school at the Titus High School and has had a love for performing arts ever since. He attended the Excelsior College where he studied Music.

Horace considers being a part of this competition is a part of his journey towards fulfilling his dream of becoming a successful singer and/or recording artiste.

  VERSATILE

Song: We Need Love

29 year old Natalee Edwards or “Versatile” hails from the district of Commodore in St. Catherine and was educated at the McGrath Comprehensive High School. She started singing at age eight and says that it has become her passion. Natalee has entered both the JCDC Jamaica Popular Song Competition and Rising Stars competition

Natalee got the name “Versatile” because of her singing style and say people are always very entertained by her performances. Her onstage experience includes performing at weddings, parties and other community events. Natalee’s main ambition is to become a Food and Beverage Manager as well as becoming the second female in history to win the Jamaica Festival Song competition.

  THE ASTRONAUTS

Song: Banjo Man

Their fist major hit was “Born Jamaican”, winning them top spot in the 1979 Jamaica Festival Song competition. They then went on to produce an album also by that name, which was released in 1982 and remained number one on the soca charts for months in several countries across the world. The Astronauts won the Jamaica Festival Song Competition, three more times, in 1982, 1994 and in 1996. They are known as “Festival Song Fanatics, because of how many times they have entered the competition. The group enjoys wide popularity in the Cayman Islands, where they have toured several times, England, and the USA and in Canada. In later years Zac Henry, songwriter for the group, was joined by Michael “Sojie” Bennett following the death of partner Donald Wright.

The group motto continues to be “Let Live Music Live”

  CLEVON EDWARDS

Song: Jamaica Little But Wi Tallawah

Hailing from Bethel Town, Westmoreland, 34 year old, Clevon’s interest in music began at a very young age. Growing up, he entered many talent competitions, including the Tastee Talent competition, which he has entered four times. He enjoys listening to all genres of music and hopes to excel in this year’s competition.

  DANNY BRASCO & IYA SIMBA

Song: Festival Time Again

Danny Brasko and Iya Simba have been singing together for approximately one year. The duos currently have two singles together that has received wide air play over the last year. Hailing from Manchester, Danny Brasko or Donovan Thompson, currently is employed as a heavy duty equipment operator at Alpart. Also from Manchester, Iya Simba or Radcliffe McClymont has been singing and writing songs for as long as he can remember. With over one hundred songs already written, he says music is a way to educate, entertain and inspire him-self and others.

  ZETTO

Song: Nah Lef Jamaica

TEXT “9” to 444 -2418

Zetto or Phillip Fray hails from Halse Hall District in Clarendon and works as a scaffolder at Jamalco Aluminia Plant. He started singing at the age of ten performing, at community events and small stage shows. Zetto is the father of four children and sees music as an opportunity to provide financially for himself and his family.
He says his inspiration for the song came from the fact that after hearing from his siblings who recently migrated, he realized that nowhere is better than Jamaica.

  MONTY MONTGOMERY

Song: My Jamaica

Monty Montgomery was born in Port Antonio and started creating music in his early years. He left Jamaica and went to England to study, a move he says contributed greatly to his musical achievements. Socializing with fellow countrymen in London, led to the creation of hits such as “Skin head girl” and “Must Catch a Train’. Along with his band, Monty holds numerous awards and is listed in the Guinness Book of British Hit Singles. He also was voted as one of the top Reggae Artistes of all times by Billboard Magazine. He has performed in Europe, Africa and the Caribbean and has already produced three albums. Now based in Atlanta, he recently released an album entitled “Back to Jump Street”.
